JAK'S (CHELSEA)JAK’S (CHELSEA)

Category:Bistro

I have to say I like this place. Jak’s is a deli/café which –despite of being in the middle of Chelsea,in walking distance from Harrods and surrounded by a plethora of pretentious bars and overpriced restaurant –has managed to maintain its character. We wanted to try Jak’s for a long time, but usually on weekends for brunch it’s absolutely packed and I am not a big fan of queues when I’m hungry… but finally we made it on a Friday evening.

Jak’s serves a mixture of different Mediterranean cuisines:pasta, moussaka, humous, salmon, kebab etc. When you walk in you can choose from a variety of enticing looking dishes displayed in a glass counter. I opted for the choice of 5 salads for 9.5£. The Greek salad was good,French beans were perfectly cooked, the tabbouleh was delicious and the red quinoa very nice in a weird way. Not only was it a very generous portion and tasted absolutely lovely,it was also incredibly healthy and provided me with more than my five a day which was exactly what I needed after the gluttony of my birthday dinner the night before. On the side we had fresh warm bread which also was a pleasure. My dinner companion RS very much enjoyed his baked aubergine.

All the healthy food was in vain after all because we got seduced by Jak’s strawberry cheese cake which the waiter recommended to us as the “best cheese cake in London”. And a cheese cake this was! A huge piece of light, fluffy and not too sweet cheese on a base of finely crumbled biscuit, topped with a divine strawberry sauce. This was heaven on a plate, really yummy.

The service was very friendly and forthcoming (and pretty cute too ;) and Jak’s has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It is not exactly cheap in the broader sense of the word but clearly good value for Chelsea. While it might not be the place where you want to hang out for hours,it’s the perfect spot for brunch/lunch or a low key dinner. I just wish it was closer to mine…
