Another,Vietnamese restaurant on Kingsland Road, which I tried with N – best friend and lover of Vietnamese food since we went to Vietnam together – after having read some good reviews about it. We went there for a healthy Sunday lunch.

O my god this place is funny! The owners seem to try halfheartedly to rebuild some kind of tropical flora, which they attempt by trapping a wide variety of poor plastic flowers and artificial grass inside their glass tables.

Unfortunately the food didn’t live up to our expectations. Utterly disgusting prawn crackers. One could say prawn crackers are disgusting per definition which I would not contradict but believe you me,Mien Tay puts a new dimension to prawn cracker repulsiveness. At least they were free… Papaya salad (Gỏi du du) was not bad but very small portion with about three prawns. The mains were bland to say the very least. Lemongrass and chili chicken (Gà Xào Xa Ot) tasted of neither lemongrass nor chili. The boiled vermicelli with prawns and lemongrass (Bún tôm xào xa ot), usually one of the most delightful dishes ever, lacked fresh herbs and was boring and unsatisfactory. Maybe we were just unlucky (the chef might have taken Sunday off) and should give Mien Tay another try,but considering how many other good Vietnamese places are in mere metres distance,we might just not…
