June 22nd, 2010 Why Oh Why of all places did I have to end up at another Hi Sushi restaurant? I had a bad experience previously at Hi Sushi Covent Garden and swore to never get close to one of the Hi Sushi branches ever again. To be fair, Okawari desperately needed a makeover and it really worked out very well. Albeit maybe slightly pricier than Okawari, it is definitely more stylish, the food is better, the portions more than generous and nicely presented and the personnel is incredibly friendly. What a charming little place, like a restaurant with a French accent if you know what I mean. La Fromagerie, as the name promises, is predominantly a cheese shop with an amazing cheese room, which you can also check out online (Online cheese room). I could not believe my eyes – they even have cheese from Austria! (they do deserve credit for this as you cannot say that Austria is exactly famous for its cheese…) June 13th, 2010 | Tags: Budget, cheese, French, London, London restaurant, Marylebone, restaurant review, Wine bar | Category: Bistro, Cusine, French, green light, Location, Marylebone, Price ratings, Traffic lights, Uncategorized | One comment June 8th, 2010 Since Rosa’s has opened its first branch in Spitalfields a couple of years ago it has consistently been featured as one of the best cheap eats in time out. I have given Rosa a chance twice and I tend to disagree with time out. I don’t think the food is that great and I don’t think it’s that cheap either. I am not so keen on the place itself, it feels claustrophobic and very loud, especially when you go there at peak times. Plum Valley is a Cantonese “fine dining” restaurant in the heart of Chinatown. Compared to some other restaurants in Chinatown where chickens are hanging in the window and all that awaits you are greasy all you can eat buffets it does indeed set itself apart already from the outside by a very black and sleek exterior. Also inside it’s stylish and does not feel like Chinatown at all. According to the rather enthusiastic review on timeout they are made daily on the premises which apparently takes 5 hours… another interesting detail which should not put you off though is the fact that udon at Koya are kneaded – in the traditional way – with feet. I don’t really want to picture this but I am sure it follows Health and Safety Regulations… June 6th, 2010 | Tags: Asian, Japanese, London, London restaurant, restaurant review, Soho, udon | Category: Bistro, Cusine, green light, Japanese, Location, Price ratings, Soho, Traffic lights, Uncategorized | 3 comments June 1st, 2010 “Pretentious as shit but worth it” - this is Launceston Place very accurately described with the words of RS. I have to say – my evening at Launceston Place was highly enjoyable on many levels and it made me very happy. This is how dining out should be. Most importantly, the food was extraordinary. What really stood out was their incredible attention to detail and the thought that seem to have gone into every little thing. It was not only that everything tasted like heaven, but also each plate was presented like a work of art.
