THE CLOUDY BAY SHACK (Parsons Green)

Last Sunday (25th of July) I met the lovely eat like a girl and the charming London Foodie at Parsons Green for the Cloudy Bay Shack to enjoy some delicious wine,  lovely food, jazz and sunshine.

Cloudy Bay wines from New Zealand have teamed up with Tom Aikens which seems like a marriage made in heaven. Their wines were paired with dishes cooked by Tom Aikens (well not cooked by him personally, but created, you know what I mean) as chosen a couple of weeks before by eat like a girl, the London foodie and gourmet chick among other. I recently have not been very convinced by the breakfast in one of Tom Aikens restaurants,Tom’s Kitchen, but this time I really enjoyed the food.

Here the five dishes to choose from –very good deal for 8.50 food and wine. I had to of course try all of them (but the one which sadly was sold out):My personal winner was the Dorset Crab with Chilli and Ginger dressing (4th in the picture),I am usually not a huge crab fan but this was so nice, with the tangy sauce and the bitterness of the chicory. It was perfectly paired with the Riesling.

Tom Aiken’s signature dish, the 7 hour cooked lamb (1st in the picture),was beyond tender with the meat falling apart and it tasted delicious. It’s more a wintery dish though,so I found it too heavy to be eaten in the sunshine.

The crabcakes were light and fluffy and subtly flavoured lying on a bed of tomato salsa (which could have been a bit more seasoned),no grease and no potatoes, that’s how crabcakes should be (3rd in the picture).

The tomato salad was the weakest dish –the tomatoes had a rubbery texture as if they had been stored in the fridge for too long. Shame,as the other flavours were really nice and I liked the combination of tomato, melon and crayfish with fresh coriander.

The atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly, and I hope that there will be a repeat of this event as I think this is just a perfect way to spend one’s Sunday and to enjoy quality wine and food to (relatively) low prices.

So when I was rolling (and admittedly) staggering home after this very pleasurable day I decided firstly to get myself a couple of bottles of the Cloudy Bay Riesling and secondly thought to maybe give Tom’s Kitchen a second chance.

By the way,you will be able to eat the above described dishes at Tom’s Kitchen throughout August. However, bear in mind that each plate will be 8 pounds and the glass of Cloudy Bay wine 12.50…
