We were actually trying to go to Zucca but they could not fit us in, so we ended up eating at Village East, a trendy cocktail bar/restaurant roughly opposite Zucca on Bermondsey Street. I like going there for cocktails actually, they do unusual combination with herbs (e.g. thyme, sage) and I love their gingerbread old fashioned. I had never eaten there before so it seemed a good idea to give it a try.

Sunday lunch time and I was craving Vietnamese food. Viet Grill seemed the right place to go to as it had received loads of raving reviews and I expected a meal full of culinary delight. But I was bitterly disappointed.
Without doubt, Viet Grill is – compared to the other Vietnamese restaurants in and around Kingsland Road – incredibly upmarket regarding its decor while still being relatively cheap. It is managed by the same people who also do the substantially less stylish Cay Tre in Hoxton; I had however the much better food at Cay Tre. Read more... I was invited to review Cafe Luc, which is a new restaurant in Marylebone. The Belgian restaurateur Luc van Oostende has opened Cafe Luc together with his daughter Julie. The result is a swank brasserie with Belgian/French inspired food. It is in general rather pricey but also offers cheaper options with starters ranging from 5.50 to 12.50 pounds and mains starting from 12 pounds. In addition, their three course set menu for 1 5.50 seems very good value for money. Read more... (689 words, 9 images, estimated 2:45 mins reading time)

I was strongly critised by my Italian friends (most of which are from Naples, where the pizza was invented) that pizza was completely absent from my blog so far.
This is basically explained by the fact that for me, pizza is absolutely neglectable so I would never dream of ordering it if I can avoid it, let alone go to a dedicated pizzeria. Read more... (669 words, 7 images, estimated 2:41 mins reading time)

I was in desperate need for spicy food and what better place could there be than a Sichuan restaurant called Chilli Cool ? Especially as it has been favourably reviewed by a horde of fellow bloggers and they are usually not wrong. You have to know about this place as it is located in a residential are South of King’s Cross where no one would ever expect an exceptional restaurant to be and you would never just walk past by chance. I don’t want to waste too much of my precious time on this review, but I feel I should be spreading the word: Don’t visit Ottoman Palace in Camden!
We went there because it’s so close to Koko where we saw Bebel Gilberto afterward and we usually like Turkish cuisine but we regretted deeply having chosen this place. Read more... (360 words, 2 images, estimated 1:26 mins reading time)

IÂ have a particular history with Yelo. In fact I don’t really know it under its real name, as N and I only call it ‘the break-up Thai’. For whatever reason it became custom for us to go there when we experienced some kind of break-up in our life, to get drunk on the cheap wine and at the same time enjoy the food. We have been there quite a lot over the past years (one wouldn’t think that there is so much to break up with or – to be fair – get broken up with..) and unfortunately it was about time to re-visit. August 5th, 2010 Supper Club, 35 pounds/head, BYO
Can I just start by saying that I absolutely love Fernandez & Leluu. I mean LOVE them.
They firstly are seriously talented cooks and secondly, they are also and incredibly lovely and delightful couple. All go to their supper club, no excuses! Mind you they are famous, they already made it into the international media so be sure to get there soon, and book early enough in advance. Read more... Finally I have made it to Bar Boulud, next to Knightsbridge tube station located in the ground floor of the exceedingly posh Mandarin Oriental Hotel. Bar Boulud has been written up to death (e.g. MarinaMetro, AA Gil, Jay Rayner, and a myriad of bloggers) so I will keep myself short.

The owner and chef, Daniel Boulud, is a successful restaurateur in New York where he doesn’t only have a restaurant with 3 Michelin stars (‘Daniel’) but is also famous for his up-market burgers . Read more... (467 words, 6 images, estimated 1:52 mins reading time)
