I don’t want to waste too much of my precious time on this review, but I feel I should be spreading the word:Don’t visit Ottoman Palace in Camden!
We went there because it’s so close to Koko where we saw Bebel Gilberto afterward and we usually like Turkish cuisine but we regretted deeply having chosen this place.
1. The service was bad. They never brought me my cutlery (I had to take from neighboring table),they forgot to bring bread (we reminded them about 4 times),the wine was warm (which can happen –but the waiter was trying to convince us that we were wrong and the wine was actually cold. Do I look like an idiot?) and they were slow.
Fortunately the service charge is NOT included, they did not deserve a penny.
2. The food was scratching the low side of mediocre. Somehow they seemed to have forgotten to season their food which resulted in blandness to the extreme.
We shared 6 hot and cold mezze between the three of us,and it was not only that they did not taste very nice, they also were badly presented. I did not even bother taking pictures.
The Hummous (3.95) was unremarkable and probably even the one from Sainsbury’s is actually better. The Tabule (3.95) consisted of a tiny portion of actual tabule on loads of green leaves. It was worth approximately 10p and it was blah. The pureed aubergines we ordered (Patlıcan Ezme,4.25) were not pureed at all,but consisted of surprisingly bland pieces of eggplant of questionable consistency intermixed with unexpectedly tasteless red pepper. The feast of monotony continued with Grilled Hellim cheese (4.50) and reached its pinnacle with Karides Tava (5.25) –sauteed tiger prawns in some poor tomato glop which we did not even finish.
3. They have a seriously dangerous killer door. I escaped a painful accident by the skin of my teeth. Like everything else in this place this doesn’t make you feel particularly welcome I have to say.
- Food: 2/10

- Verdict:The Invention of Insipidity

I competely agree, awful in the extreme!!
Why is this place still open? How on earth is it making its money? The food is bland to poor. The waiters seem angry with the world. The wine is tasteless. The prices very high for the experience.
I could not agree more! sometimes you wonder….
