At the end of the month, when I am desperately waiting to get paid, I tend to make good use of my Taste London Card. One of these monthly returning occasions brought me to Raffaello, a newish Italian restaurant in Southwark, which is already pretty cheap and you get 50% off food when in possession of a Taste London card. It’s cheap. That’s about the only positive thing I can say about TukTuk Noodle Bar in Soho. As the name promises it serves all kinds of Asian noodle dishes. I am hardly ever in Central London during the week at lunch time and why oh why did I not just queue at Koya? Well, too late for regrets, just don’t make the same mistake as me and do keep away from this restaurant. Read more... (285 words, 3 images, estimated 1:08 mins reading time)
November 23rd, 2010 Supper Club, 35 pounds/head minimum donation, BYO
It is Saturday, it is cold and dark and it is one of those days where I am still wearing my pajamas at 5 pm. I really don’ t want to leave the house and venture into the unknown East (of London). But I have already agreed to visit the new supper club of my charming twitter friend Matt, so I finally manage to remove my lazy self from the sofa. Luckily, the warmth and generosity of our hosts quickly lightens up the chilly November night. Also very welcoming is the dog – a beautiful Hungarian Vizla named Cooper, who we immediately make friends with. Read more... (871 words, 9 images, estimated 3:29 mins reading time)

The good thing about food blogging I find is not only that fact that I can eat out all the time and call it research, but also that I have met lovely and interesting people through it. So I caught up with my favourite blogging friends LoveLeluu and The Happiness Project London at Dishoom. All three of us wanted to try this so called ‘Bombay cafe’ which opened earlier this year in Covent Garden as we were possibly the only people left in London who had never been there before. Goldfish City might have a rather funny name for a restaurant but it serves surprisingly delicious, non-greasy Chinese food. Why surprising? Chinese is the cuisine I have been probably the most unlucky with over the past years and only recently I have discovered a range of Chinese restaurants where I actually LIKE the food. Maybe I finally broke the Bad Chinese Food in London spell? Read more... (625 words, 8 images, estimated 2:30 mins reading time)

I was so excited to learn that a new, decently priced gastro pub had opened South of Tower Bridge, about 10 min from where I live. And I was even more pleased when I read the review by Jay Rayner who really liked the food there. Now I finally made it to The Draft House and I have to disagree with good old Jay as I found the whole experience rather disappointing. Read more... November 13th, 2010 Are you looking for a new job? I might have just the right one for you. Have you considered a career in Chocolate Tasting? Micah Carr-Hill, Head of Taste at Green & Black Chocolates, is looking for a Taste Assistant in a nationwide campaign. You could be eating chocolate all day and getting paid for it… sounds awful doesn’t it?

Once in a while you come across a place you don’t really want to write up and Vinoteca is one of them. Why? Because it is a little gem and it’s already difficult enough to get a table with their no booking policy. But I wouldn’t have found it if it hadn’t popped up in several ‘my favourite London restaurants‘ lists of trusted food bloggers (Gourmet Chick, Londonelicious ) and I shall now also be a good and altruistic person for a change and share it with you too. There is just something about Sichuan cuisine that I love. I don’t know if it is the chili, the numbing spiciness of the Sichuan peppers, the liberal use of garlic and oil or the combination of all of these with other ingredients I can’t pinpoint. Feeding my addiction, there is an increasing number of good Sichuan restaurants in London, such as Chili Cool, Ba Shan and Empress of Sichuan. The latter is located in the heart of Chinatown and – for Chinatown standards – its interior is rather posh. I have been wanting to go there forever, and after I read Catty’s mouthwatering review on it, there was no holding me back. I followed some of her recommendations, which turned out to be delicious. I was meeting lovely LoveLeluu for dinner and as we were both rather broke we ended up at Sedap, a little Malaysian restaurant characterised by small prices and equally tiny portions. The restaurant is rather basic but nice enough for a quick bite to eat.

We started with Pork Dumpling (3.80), which were entirely indistinct and I would not order again. The Kerabu Vegetable Salad (4.20) however was delicious. Slivers of cucumber in a fresh and zesty dressing were beutifully complemented by fresh mint and just a hint of chilli. Read more... (283 words, 5 images, estimated 1:08 mins reading time)
