I recently walked through Borough Market, famished and on the way to dinner.
Unfortunately I still had an hour or so until food and my blood glucose levels had sunk to a dangerous level where I started to feel very irritated with the world. I suffer from a condition that my blogger friend Sassanuka describes as hangrrrr (hunger induced anger) and people who know me better are very afraid of this sudden change of my personality. I went into Hotel Chocolat, which has a small shop/ cafe on the South side of Borough Market, and they probably saved my dinner date from an very grumpy Ute (at least until the bread would have been served).
The nice people in Hotel Chocolat (god bless them!) immediately offered me some chili infused hot chocolate to try. I don’t usually drink hot chocolate, but this one I have to say was super delicious, rich and smooth, and you would get a real kick from the chili.
I already felt a bit better at this stage but more freebies were yet to come. Me and the other few customers still in the shop each got a chocolate mousse. Because it’s the end of the day and they wanted to get rid off them. It is such a small thing, but it made me very happy. Especially as free calories don’t count!
Out of curiosity I choose the Valentine’s special chocolate mousse which came with ginger and candied cherries. Very chocolaty, scrumptious and moreish I savoured every last bite.
So,girls and boys,if you need a quick Valentine’s present for the big day tomorrow, pop down to one of the Hotel Chocolat shops and get e.g. one of these chili chocolates. If you are lucky you might also get some chocolate to taste,I hope you do. Have a happy and peaceful Valentine’s Day and make sure to properly feed your better half!

I love this place! They do some pretty kooky toasted paninis with chicken and bitter chocolate as well. As for the hangrrrr- a feeling I know, all too well
