My parents came to visit me from Austria and I wanted to something special with them, so I took them to Cambridge for the weekend.  We stayed at The Varsity Hotel in central Cambridge and even though this hotel looked great on paper (on the website rather), it was overpriced, and we were very disappointed.  So this will be a little post about where not to stay in Cambridge….

Beirut Express in the middle of buzzing and ethnic Edgware Road is a member of the  Lebanese restaurant dynasty Maroush.  There are several “Maroush”, a couple of Beirut Expresses, some Ranoush Juices and more.  My date was happy to assure me, that this particular Beirut Express in Edgware Road is the best of the whole bunch, and among the best budget Lebanese eateries in London.  After having eaten there I have little doubt that he is right.

Mari Vanna, a Russian restaurant with subsidiaries in Moscow, St. Petersburg and New York, has recently opened a new outpost in – who would have guessed – the Little Russia of London, Knightsbridge.  I naturally assumed it would be an overpriced pretentious place for noveau-riche Russians (well, this might have been covered with Novikov) and was pleasantly surprised to read a variety of good reviews (The Skinny Bib, John Lancaster at the Guardian ).

Frozen Yoghurt – The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

Summer in London

London sunny and warm summer days, gorgeous as they are, are far too rare and fleeting.  My optimistic self has packed all the summer dresses and sandals away for this year, and has given up waiting for temperatures of over 20 degrees.  It seems a long time ago, but we did have a few days of sun during which I managed to do a frozen yoghurt tasting marathon, trying most frozen yoghurt retailers that I missed out on last year.  (Last year I reviewed Yog, Yuforia, Yoo Moo and Snog - with Yog and Yuforia clearly leading the pack.)
