Callay!’ He chortled in his joy.I usually don’t review bars. Even though I really enjoy an occasional cocktail,I prefer wine and am therefore definitely not an expert in mixology. I will however write a little post about Callooh Callah in Shoreditch because it must be the cutest bar in the world, inspired by the enchanted world of Alice in Wonderland. Read more... Viet Grill seemed the right place to go to as it had received loads of raving reviews and I expected a meal full of culinary delight. But I was bitterly disappointed. Without doubt,Viet Grill is –compared to the other Vietnamese restaurants in and around Kingsland Road –incredibly upmarket regarding its decor while still being relatively cheap. It is managed by the same people who also do the substantially less stylish Cay Tre in Hoxton;I had however the much better food at Cay Tre. Read more... Ever since I’ve been to Vietnam it has been competing with Thai for the first place in my favourite Asian food ranking. I love the fresh taste of herbs together with lemongrass, ginger, fish sauce and chili, and particularly I love the fact that you can eat loads of it without gaining weight. And it’s good for your finances too as you can get high quality Vietnamese food for very little money in London. The problem with most of the Vietnamese restaurant on and around Kingsland Road, the Mecca of Vietnamese cuisine,is the fact that they are completely unsuitable for dates (unless you like having dates in a canteen style atmosphere on shared tables with people queuing into your face).
