@London Girl I’ve lived in Bath for over 20 years and I’ve not been to the Priory or Olive Tree for exactly the “pretentious” reasons you cite. The problem with Bath is the near complete absence of fine-dining/michelin-calibre competition, allowing places like The Priory/Olive Tree to lord over Bath’s dining “scene” (such as it is) without the need to be self-critical or keep up with modern dining trends.

The recent opening of Allium and the attention the Rayner review garnered, things looks set to change for the better (indeed Olive Tree has just employed a new head chef recently although their menu seems to have stayed largely the same). With the sort of prices their menus typically command, I’d much rather be dining at any number of places in London or Bristol.

Love the write up with regards to bringing your little one – I have a three year old and live in Bexley so not much of a choice of good restaurants so its nice to know if a restaurant is good for babies/toddlers etc

Get a life!!! If only I had the time to sit down and write such rubbish!! You obviously have very little going on in your life that you feel it necessary to trash places like the olive tree in such detail, even taking pictures!! youre no Micheal Winner!!!I’ve been to both the queens bury hotel and the priory, both wonderful, the priory a little pretentious and fussy but worth the money. I can only imagine that the super attentive service at the Priory made you feel important, which is probably the only reason you rate it so highly because you feel unimportant and this forum gives you your validation!!

Wow, I have no idea how you can manage that camera (excellent pics btw) with a baby in tow – I can never do that.

Now, century egg with tofu is definitely a first for me. I’ve always had mine with congee. And who says that places near major train stations are all tourist traps?
