Supper Clubs,or Underground Restaurants as they are also called, are a perfect alternative to conventional restaurants. You book in advance, get a usually secret address and then you turn up at a stranger’s house. You sit on communal tables, get served home-cooked food (which can range from rather basic to fine dining quality) and drink wine you brought with you. It is a mixture between a restaurant and a dinner party and I have met some great people and even made friends. I am full of admiration for the cooks often without formal training creating amazing food, often for incredible value for money.
Of course there are always some black sheep,so it is worth to do your research and read some reviews before you book a place somewhere (if you don’t find your supper club of interest here I recommend to check e.g on QYPE or the blog of The London Foodie).
Here is a list of supper clubs I have been to,the ones marked with a * are the ones that I particularly recommend. I am planning to add onto this list soon,so keep checking!
