City Lemon Featured Food Blogger | February 15th,2011 Category:Bistro (££) In celebration of the Chinese New Year I met Mr. Noodles and some other friends at Dumpling Legend in Chinatown. This evening turned out to be not only a feast of some delicious and some not so great food, but was also hugely educational as I learned a lot from Mr. Noodles about Chinese culture, food and restaurants. I was intrigued –I had no idea what bubble tea was and had obviously never tried it either. Read more... The only reason for me to venture out into this tube-less part of town is the Battersea Arts Centre –an utterly great and creative theatre well worth the journey. If you have the chance to see ‘The Children and Animals took to the Streets‘by 1927,do it! This was one of the best and most entertaining shows I have seen in the past year. Additionally,I really like the bar at the BAC,I just wish it was closer to where I live,I would hang out there every day… Read more... It’s cheap. That’s about the only positive thing I can say about TukTuk Noodle Bar in Soho. As the name promises it serves all kinds of Asian noodle dishes. I am hardly ever in Central London during the week at lunch time and why oh why did I not just queue at Koya? Well, too late for regrets, just don’t make the same mistake as me and do keep away from this restaurant. Read more... So I caught up with my favourite blogging friends LoveLeluu and The Happiness Project London at Dishoom. All three of us wanted to try this so called ‘Bombay cafe’which opened earlier this year in Covent Garden as we were possibly the only people left in London who had never been there before. Why surprising? Chinese is the cuisine I have been probably the most unlucky with over the past years and only recently I have discovered a range of Chinese restaurants where I actually LIKE the food. Maybe I finally broke the Bad Chinese Food in London spell? Read more... I don’t know if it is the chili, the numbing spiciness of the Sichuan peppers, the liberal use of garlic and oil or the combination of all of these with other ingredients I can’t pinpoint. Feeding my addiction, there is an increasing number of good Sichuan restaurants in London, such as Chili Cool,Ba Shan and Empress of Sichuan. The latter is located in the heart of Chinatown and –for Chinatown standards –its interior is rather posh. I have been wanting to go there forever, and after I read Catty’s mouthwatering review on it,there was no holding me back. I followed some of her recommendations, which turned out to be delicious. The restaurant is rather basic but nice enough for a quick bite to eat.
We started with Pork Dumpling (3.80),which were entirely indistinct and I would not order again. The Kerabu Vegetable Salad (4.20) however was delicious. Slivers of cucumber in a fresh and zesty dressing were beutifully complemented by fresh mint and just a hint of chilli. Read more... Benares was the first Michelin starred Indian I tried and I was not sure what to expect as this restaurant seems to divide food critics, food bloggers and the public likewise. Read more... It is too small to be even called a restaurant actually. We found it on Chowhound and it was apparently featured on the Antony Bourdain’s No Reservation programme on US TV (which I have to be honest have not heard of before). And you can look at it here (starts at 1:00 min) Read more... (360 words,6 images, estimated 1:26 mins reading time)
