 Australian Tartine @ Poilane
Category: Bistro (££)

The decision to give a very positive review to the all day breakfast/ tartine/French boulangerie place Cuisine de Bar by Poilane just off busy King’s Road is largely based on the fact that I am absolutely in love with their Australian Tartine (?£8.5). Ripe mashed avocado is generously layered onto a slice of deliciously fresh crisp artisan brown bread which has before been spread thinly with vegemite, the Australian version o f marmite. Together with the chilli flakes sprinkled on top, the result is an enticing mixture of salty and hot and creamy and I just absolutely love it. I think it’s the best hangover food ever, as it gives you everything you need to recover from having had one glass too many. Read more... (435 words, 7 images, estimated 1:44 mins reading time)

(and there is a bar too which gets a very green light)
I went to The Breakfast Club following a Twitter recommendation when I was looking for a decent restaurant/cafe/pub to eat, drink and gossip around Liverpool Street Station. It is surprisingly difficult to find a place in close proximity to the station that is not infested by investment bankers and alike, basically people wearing stilettos and suits. They make me feel intimidated as I can’t walk in stilettos and my only suit is gathering dust in my wardrobe. Read more... (688 words, 10 images, estimated 2:45 mins reading time)
September 6th, 2011 The Big Chill House is, as the name suggests, a chilled hang-out very close to King’s Cross/St. Pancras and just around the corner from the music and party venue The Scala. I have spend some relaxed afternoon there in the past, sipping cider on the roof terrace and enjoying the rare rays of English sun light but I have up until now never considered it as a breakfast venue. Glorious Saturday brunch, how much I love you! After a lazy lie-in just throw on some clothes, grab a newspaper or a novel and find yourself a table at your favourite breakfast joint. Read more... (497 words, 9 images, estimated 1:59 mins reading time)

Sunday brunch at Tom’s Kitchen and I was not impressed. This is the second restaurant by the Michelin starred chef Tom Aikens whose other restaurants include Tom Aikens in Chelsea and Tom’s Terrace at the Somerset House. I had heard great things about this place especially for brunch and my expectations were correspondingly high. BUT, to my utter disappointment:
Firstly, Tom’s Kitchen is massively overpriced: 4 pounds for a small glass of orange juice? I know it’s Chelsea, but please! Read more... (386 words, 3 images, estimated 1:33 mins reading time)

I really like SoBo. It is a pleasant little neighborhood cafe which has ever-changing art installations (at the moment they have colourful bikes on the wall, not quite my cup of tea but nevertheless kind of cool) and which is frequented by an interesting crowd – I am always surprised to see that people like this do actually live in my area… Read more... Bad bad experience, I am still annoyed thinking about my breakfast at Delfina which felt like being on a hidden camera TV show.
Let me set the scene: It was Monday morning, around 8:30 , not an unusual time to have breakfast. The restaurant was basically empty and remained empty (which in hindsight doesn’t surprise). Only a couple of people stopped for a take away coffee.
The waitress: chatty, friendly, American, completely useless. Read more... (454 words, 3 images, estimated 1:49 mins reading time)

Have a mentioned that I love Vietnamese? So it’s a very good thing for me to have a decent and cheap Vietnamese Cafe in the neighborhood. I am talking about Caphe House in Bermondsey Street, which is a small and relaxed place offering Vietnamese baguette (Banh Mi), fresh spring roles, Pho and several rice and noodle dishes among others. And – as the name promises – Vietnamese coffee.
We went there for lunch and were pleasantly surprised: Read more... (301 words, 2 images, estimated 1:12 mins reading time)
