City Lemon Featured Food Blogger | November 12th,2010 Category: Bistro (££) Once in a while you come across a place you don’t really want to write up and Vinoteca is one of them. Why? Because it is a little gem and it’s already difficult enough to get a table with their no booking policy. But I wouldn’t have found it if it hadn’t popped up in several ‘my favourite London restaurants‘lists of trusted food bloggers (Gourmet Chick, Londonelicious ) and I shall now also be a good and altruistic person for a change and share it with you too. I like going there for cocktails actually, they do unusual combination with herbs (e.g. thyme, sage) and I love their gingerbread old fashioned. I had never eaten there before so it seemed a good idea to give it a try. Read more... (606 words,8 images, estimated 2:25 mins reading time)

I was invited to review Cafe Luc,which is a new restaurant in Marylebone. The Belgian restaurateur Luc van Oostende has opened Cafe Luc together with his daughter Julie. The result is a swank brasserie with Belgian/French inspired food. It is in general rather pricey but also offers cheaper options with starters ranging from 5.50 to 12.50 pounds and mains starting from 12 pounds. In addition, their three course set menu for 1 5.50 seems very good value for money. Read more... This time it took place at Bob Bob Ricards in Soho. Bob Bob Ricard is a super stylish and decadent,Russian themed restaurant with –very importantly –a pink “champagne emergency button”on each table;the evening was off to a promising start! It indeed commenced very well with the BBR signature cocktail –a delicious rhubarb gin &tonic (7.5). In fact I have to say that all the drinks to come were delightful. Read more... (I took RS there for his birthday, lucky guy!) The chef Brett Graham is only 30 years old and has accomplished 2 Michelin stars for his restaurant (for a more detailed description of the chef’s CV and some beautiful pictures of the food at the Ledbury I refer you to the excellent post by Cheese and Biscuits). The food is ‘modern French’with some interesting twists,I particularly enjoyed the play with unusual flavours which you kind of think can’t work together and can’t help but order out of curiosity:let me guarantee you however, they do work very well indeed! Let me set the scene: It was Monday morning, around 8:30 ,not an unusual time to have breakfast. The restaurant was basically empty and remained empty (which in hindsight doesn’t surprise). Only a couple of people stopped for a take away coffee. The waitress:chatty, friendly,American, completely useless. Read more... Alfie’s,a hotel restaurant on Bermondsey Square,is one of these unfortunate places. It didn’t have very good reviews admittedly, but we decided to give it a chance anyway,as the hotel looks really classy from the outside and so does the restaurant. Also the inside is quite nice –it’s a rather stylish, maybe not too comfortable but nicely done with an open kitchen. Read more... I had a very nice evening but this was due to the company and certainly not due to food or venue. Maybe I shouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth, but I do have a couple of things to say about Meza… Meza shares the same entrance with Cuban restaurant and bar Floridita and belongs – like Floridita –to the D&D restaurant group. My experience with food and service at Floridita has not been great so I had some concerns about Meza –which were unfortunately fully appropriate. Read more...
