May 10th, 2011 For those of you who haven’t heard me moaning yet – I am in exile in Wales (no, not Cardiff, somewhere VERY rural) for a few months and I miss London! I am suffering from a restaurant and culture cold turkey and if I don’t get my fix soon I see terrible things happening…
So, there are no restaurants to talk about were I live, or rather exist, now and I am finally sick of Innocent Vegetable Pots. The food in the canteen is basically inedible and I was thinking of taking a couple of pictures of the stodge they serve here, so that not only my appetite is spoiled (I take care of my readers ).
Taken all of this together I have decided I have to start cooking now. In seriousness. And indeed I made a very decent (and very easy) salad today which I think was good enough to post about it. Was it really good or was it just good for Wales and my standards are already dropping I cannot answer, but judge for yourself.

April 17th, 2011 This is a little guest post I wrote for MouthLondon.

‘How can you afford to eat out that often?’ People who read my restaurant blog frequently ask me. I have to admit, I love food and eating out is my favourite pastime, but it can get very expensive. Ever since I started my own restaurant blog last April, the frequency of my restaurant visits have increased exponentially (but now I can call it research!) And believe me, as a consequence I have explored every way of eating the best food in London on a PhD student’s salary. Read more... (817 words, 2 images, estimated 3:16 mins reading time)

I would have never gone to Cafe Amisha if it wasn’t for my Italian friend at work. She is a very good cook herself and very critical about Italian restaurants, but this one, she said, served very decent food. Who would have thought this about a place called Cafe Amisha? You expect a grotty Indian take away, so I was still not convinced. But considering that it is 10 minutes by foot from where I live/ about 10 minutes also from Bermondsey Street and that it is 50% off on Taste London, I was willing to take a risk. Read more... Who would have thought that there is a lovely French restaurant combined Jazz bar at the border of Elephant &Castle and Kennington? Even though I live rather close, I tend to ignore this area and if it wouldn’t be for the White Bear Theatre (a very decent pub theatre on Kennington Park Road) I would still be in ignorance about the fact that you can actually have a swell night out in Kennington. At the end of the month, when I am desperately waiting to get paid, I tend to make good use of my Taste London Card. One of these monthly returning occasions brought me to Raffaello, a newish Italian restaurant in Southwark, which is already pretty cheap and you get 50% off food when in possession of a Taste London card. Goldfish City might have a rather funny name for a restaurant but it serves surprisingly delicious, non-greasy Chinese food. Why surprising? Chinese is the cuisine I have been probably the most unlucky with over the past years and only recently I have discovered a range of Chinese restaurants where I actually LIKE the food. Maybe I finally broke the Bad Chinese Food in London spell? Read more... (625 words, 8 images, estimated 2:30 mins reading time)

Pasha is a posh Moroccan restaurant in Gloucester Road and it unfortunately did not impress me at all. Pasha and my relationship was off to a bad start as its website plays a very very annoying music which took me forever to switch off resulting in me being highly irritated. This would have been already enough to put me off Pasha forever, but I had to give it a chance: I needed a pre-concert restaurant before going to the Royal Albert Hall and Pasha happens to be 50% off on Taste London. So there we go. Read more... (744 words, 7 images, estimated 2:59 mins reading time)

Another theatre, a nother pre-theatre dinner. This time I went to the Menier Chocolate Factory to see The Number (a very weird play about clones, making me think how awful it would be to have clonal copies of myself around. I wonder if I would like myself?). But this is not a theatre blog and I shall return in medias res and describe my meal at Silka next to Borough Market. Silka is an Indian restaurant serving relatively light Indian food and it is on Taste London for a 2for1 offer. It is a basement restaurant which is hard to miss with an inconspicuous white door facing Southwark Street. Read more... (614 words, 7 images, estimated 2:27 mins reading time)

Tsuru Sushi is a little gem and I really wonder how I survived so long without it. My enthusiasm is attributable to several factors: (1) good food (2), so close to London Bridge (this is where I work), (3) possibly the friendliest and most charming service I have had in a long time and (4) it is already cheap but even cheaper when you have a Taste London Card (which I have and which gives me 50% off ). Vietnamese and Japanese fusion….? No it’s not, it’s awful!
N and I, after a not very successful shopping afternoon (I wonder who actually looks good in harem pants..), had booked a table at Nuocmam in Great Portland Street close to Oxford Circus. It was 50% off on Taste London and it claimed to serve Vietnamese cuisine.
When we arrived there we started to feel a bit dubious about the whole idea, as the sign at the door indicated that it was a “karaoke restaurant”. Scary! Read more... (652 words, 1 image, estimated 2:36 mins reading time)
